Mixed media installation featuring a custom-made architecture of LaserDiscs, LED lights, bamboo, 3D fan holograms
Created specifically for the Void Space at ARTSPACE Sydney, the work is suspended from the ceiling and extends vertically: a constellation of articulated bamboo culms is punctured by LED light nodes and LaserDiscs of 1990s blockbuster science-fiction films, while sound and moving image emanate from embedded 3D fan holograms of remixed Cantonese cinema excerpts.
Situated at the intersection of cinema, installation, broadcast technology, and diasporic media circulation, the installation evokes navigational mirages of inverted worlds floating in the air.
Like the previous three projects, this work operates as both stage and signal: a hybrid narrative environment where Wong re-edits, reinterprets, and re-performs Cantonese theatrical traditions and science-fiction imaginaries.

LaserDiscs of 1980s/90s sci-fi films, sourced locally in Australia, are each fitted with a custom-altered LED bulb that gradually shifts through a colour palette. These are interspersed with 3D fan holograms displaying video collages of Cantonese opera and Eastern Bloc sci-fi films from the 1950s/60s.
